Axis Initiates Development of Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion Implant

Lateral cage development started formally in May 2024 with initial discussions taking place with some of Axis design team surgeons. It was great to have Dr. Nicholas Spina (Salt Lake City, UT) and Dr. J.C. Leveque (Seattle, WA) provide their thoughts on todays challenges using existing lateral cages and how they think Axis wedge within a wedge technology can address many of these and create a better lateral implant.
Axis team was excited to hear how go in small and correct should provide for better implant positioning in A/P plane and how load share during wedge insertion should allow for more lordosis creation. Reviewing the latest clinical data on Axis-ALIF, team felt very confident that the modular lateral cage would provide enhanced alignment over current, one piece cages.
